Dr. Tom Elliott

Dr. Elliott is a specialist in the discipline of Endocrinology and Metabolism. The conditions in which he has special expertise include: diabetes mellitus, thyroid conditions, high blood pressure, cholesterol and lipid disorders, diseases of the pituitary (prolactinoma, pituitary tumors), adrenal, ovarian and testicular function (including menstrual problems, menopausal concerns, infertility and impotence) and disorders of bone, calcium and minerals including osteoporosis and hyperparathyroidism. He is also trained as a General Internist and has expertise in disorders including those of the heart, lungs, kidneys, gastrointestinal tract, brain, skin and joints.

He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Queensland in Australia and then trained as a specialist in Internal Medicine at UBC before completing his training in Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of London in Guy's Hospital England. In 1992 Dr. Elliott was appointed an Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia. He has admitting privileges at Vancouver Hospital & Health Sciences (VGH & UBC Hospitals) and consulting privileges at St. Pauls Hospital. He is director of Undergraduate Education for the UBC Division of Endocrinology and is heavily involved in the training of Medical Students,Residents (doctors training to be specialists) and Fellows (recently qualified specialists training doing advanced training).

Dr. Elliott is actively involved in a number of clinical research projects encompassing many of the areas of clinical endocrinology.

Dr. Elliott is chair of the BC Endocrine Research Foundation (BCERF), a Vancouver-based charity that supports local research and education in endocrinology-related disorders. The directors of the BCERF serve on an honorary basis and are all Faculty Members of the UBC Department of Medicine. The Foundation's Advisory Board is represented by members from all walks of life, some of whom are his patients.

The BCERF is currently on a fund-raising campaign and is also seeking volunteers to staff our programs. The Foundation has charitable status and therefore can issue a receipt for income tax purposes.
